A SOUTH Lakes MP has paid tribute to all the political parties, following last week's election.

MP Tim Farron was speaking after the South Lakeland District Council election results had been counted on May 4, at Kendal Leisure Centre.

He had been at the count all day, supporting his party, and said he was delighted the Liberal Democrats had secured another year as the leading party.

"Last year was difficult, this year we have seen significant progress in certain areas like Grange for example.

"It's a good result for us because above all else, we all love what we do and it is a wonderful way to serve the people.

"I do feel for all the parties who did not get the results they wanted, but it was a great result for the Liberal Democrats."

In spite of the Lib Dem hold across the South Lakes, the Conservative party issued a message of thanks to all their voters.

Addressing his supporters, Ben Berry, who is the Conservative group leader, and a Councillor for Windermere said: "We are absolutely delighted to have made gains in these elections and profoundly grateful to the people of South Lakeland.

"Local voters have come out in great strength to support us. We will be using our strengthened position on the council to continue to hold the Liberal Democrat administration to account on behalf of people across the district."
