A SOUTH Cumbria man who brandished broken chairs legs and a telescopic pole has been fined by a court.

Warren Lusted, 32, appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court today and pleaded guilty to a public order offence of using threatening or abusing words or behaviour in Bowness on December 28.

The court heard that police attended the Memorial Buildings flats, in Bowness, at around 11.20pm as there had been an earlier issue between Lusted and another resident. Officers had been talking to a resident in a flat, heard a loud bang and raised voice, and had gone to look in the communal area.

Prosecutor Miss Rachel Parker said: "The defendant was brandishing two wooden chair legs and a telescopic pole. He was told to drop them and he did."

Mr Andrew Gallagher, defending, said there has been an issue with another resident and the defendant had been upset. Mr Gallagher also said Lusted has ADHD and Asperger's syndrome.

Mr Gallagher said: "He did break a chair and go out into the communal area, and was met by the police. Police told him to put the items down and that is what he did."

Lusted, of Memorial Buildings, Bowness, was fined £180 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £30 and court costs of £85.
