SCHOOLS across the South Lakes are once again celebrating another excellent year of exam results.
From Windermere down to Cartmel, some of the smaller schools in the area have been no less effective than their larger counterparts.
Peter Blackburn, headteacher at the John Ruskin School in Coniston, spoke about this year's crop of results.
He said: "I'm really pleased with our results. We are fortunate that our curriculum is based around GCSEs and our children perform well in traditional subjects. Last year we were one of the top 100 schools in the country."
One of the stand-out performers this year from John Ruskin was Callum Slater, 16. Callum surpassed all of his own expectations, walking away with eight A*s and two As.
He said: "I'm feeling pretty awesome really. I've shocked myself, I definitely wasn't expecting it at all."
All across the Lakes there were similar stories to tell.
At the Windermere School, student Ella Handy, 16, was one of the best performers in her year, receiving nine A*s and one A.
She thanked her teachers for the work they put in throughout the year, she said: "I've worked very hard but to be honest a lot of it is down to the incredible teachers that we have."
The headteacher of Windermere, Ian Lavender, spoke about the best set of results the school has achieved since it became non-selective in 2000.
He said: "We've the best A* to C grades that we've had in 16 years. We had a 95 per cent pass rate, including English and maths. We also had the best A* to A results for a decade."

At the Cartmel Priory School, headteacher Dr Paul Williams said: "The school is delighted with an excellent set of exam results. Students of all abilities have performed well.
"Comparison to last year’s national results indicates that in terms of the DFE’s key new Progress 8 measure, students have performed significantly better than pupils of similar ability nationally."
