Windermere marina village has seen a five per cent year on year increase on their mooring occupancy rates.

Additionally, identified in a Lake District National Park Lake usage report, new boat registrations are up by eight per cent from 687 to 744 annually.

The rise in mooring occupancy and boat sales were also helped by the annual Windermere Boat Show held in May this year.

Marina manager, Dan Fairweather, said: "We have had a fantastic uptake of moorings in the last few years.

“Our annual moorings have been boosted by an increase in temporary moorings for small powerboats, used for day-boats, wakeboarding and wake-surfing.”

Mr Fairweather added: “These boats make up almost 50 per cent of the new boats we have seen this season and we have altered our moorings to accommodate this change.”

The occupancy increase has prompted plans for future investment which will include a new shower block, the upgrading of the wi-fi, and new jetty configurations.

A survey conducted at the boat show revealed that 45 per cent of people who attended were looking to purchase a boat in the next 12 months.

This will not only boost the mooring occupancy, but also lead to boat sales and boost the local economy.

The owner of Shepherds Marine, Jason Dearden, said: "Since the interest generated from the Windermere boat show, we have witnessed an increase in sales of powerboats.

“Visitors are looking to enjoy the lake to wakeboard and water-ski. It is great to see this trend return to Lake Windermere, which in turn will benefit local businesses."

Mr Dearden added: "Buyers are also opting to use these powerboats for day use, and come from areas such as Preston and Manchester.”

The event was only the second Windermere boat show, with 77 per cent of visitors coming for the first time.
