POLICE are are investigating the attempted exchange of counterfeit currency in the Lakes.

Windermere Police received several calls from shop owners in the Windermere area yesterday morning (Wednesday) reporting a young male aged around 13 years old entering their stores, selecting low value goods and attempting to pay with a counterfeit £20 Scottish Bank Note.

Police are appealing for anyone who may be able to identify the suspect or provide further information.

The suspect is described as white, aged around 13 years old, 5ft tall and slim build. He had brown hair which was swept to one side, the male spoke with an Irish accent. At the time he was wearing a grey tracksuit with black patches on the knees and elbows. The male was carrying a small black bag.
