POLICE are appealing for information after a burglary and an attempted burglary in the South Lakes.

On Tuesday, a man attempted to break into a house in Satterthwaite, but was discovered by the owner and made off from the scene.

Yesterday a man entered an unlocked property between 6pm and 7pm in Oxen Park, after distracting the owner with a request for water. A number of items of jewellery were stolen, worth around £95.

It is believed that the offender was the same man in both incidents.

He is described as around 5ft 7in tall with short dark hair, which may be thinning, and in his 40s. He had a blue rucksack with pink flowers, and rode a red bicycle with bent handlebars.

Detective Inspector Helen Curme said: "I would urge anyone in the area who sees a man matching this description, or anything suspicious, to let us know. We believe he may be targeting properties in the area, so I would encourage residents to ensure they lock their doors and windows. If anyone in the area has any information, please get in touch so that we can investigate."

Anyone with information should call Cumbria police on 101 and quote log number 252 of June 22, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
