SUCCESS stories have piled in from across the Lake District as pupils return to school, many for the final time, to collect their GCSE results.

Staff have praised the "outstanding" efforts from students at John Ruskin School who have continued to deliver strong despite the changes to the exams.

John Ruskin School

Head Peter Blackburn called this year's grades "incredibly positive" and said results day was always "a real personal thing" due to the size of the school.

"I am overjoyed that John Ruskin School has been able to use its unique strengths as a small school to again deliver exceptional exam results.

"Knowing each individual student so well clearly has a massive impact on their academic success."

Head girl Simone Clarke did exceptionally well in maths, English language and English literature, achieving all grade nines as well as getting five A*s.

Ben Raines and Jack Barton were also thrilled with their grade nines in English, even though Jack had suffered from a cycle race-induced concussion before sitting his exams.

And, despite only joining the school two years ago from Holland, Ella-Rose Konijn managed to achieve top grades, just like pupils Danielle Adams and Rhiannon Hatton.

Mr Blackburn added: "We wish our students, all of whom are able to progress to the destination of their choice, all the very best for the future."

Windermere School

The good news from the across the area kept flowing. Windermere School boasted a pass rate significantly higher than the national average, with more than 90 per cent achieving A* to C grades, and a 100 percent pass rate in English and maths.

The school's shining stars were Rosy Lavender, who got nine A*s, Annabelle Bennett, who achieved eight A*s, and one A, and Lucy Ferguson, Francesca Barton, and Oliver Gajdowski, who racked up an impressive 18 A*s and 9As between them.

Headmaster Ian Lavender said: "I am delighted for the students, their families and staff.

"We have a growing school roll and this is a tribute to all who work so hard to make Windermere School such a special place."

Cartmel Priory C of E

Cartmel Priory C of E school were also quick to praise the efforts of their pupils.

Head Peter Williams said: "The school is pleased that, despite the challenges presented by the changes to the exam system, so many students have performed well and were celebrating their success today."
