SUPERMARKET giant Sainsbury's is set to open a store in South Cumbria.

The supermarket chain Sainsbury's has exchanged conditional contracts to open a Sainsbury’s Local convenience store in Windermere.

It will replace the MyLocal store on Main Road. The current employees will be given the opportunity to transfer to Sainsbury’s.

Angharad Lynch, property communications manager at Sainsbury’s, said: "As convenience retailer of the year for the fifth year running, we are committed to playing an active role in the communities in which we operate.

"As well as each of our convenience stores supporting a nominated local charity every year, Sainsbury’s runs a nationwide Active Kids programme that helps invest in sporting equipment for local groups and schools.

“Since 2005, Cumbria has benefited from more than £280,000.".
