A BRAND-NEW fleet of luxury buses has hit the Lake District as part of a £1.5m travel investment.

Stagecoach Cumbria and north Lancashire has introduced seven open-top Lakesider buses which will run on the established 599 route between Grasmere and Bowness.

Managing director Matthew Cranwell said: "We aim to give passengers realistic alternatives to jumping in the car, so they can explore the Lake District without having to worry about driving and parking along the way.”

Passengers can enjoy free Wi-Fi, USB charging points and extra space on board for buggies and bicycles.

All buses have greener engines to help reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable travel.

Starting from September 30, the fleet will operate a seven-day service.
