A MAN has admitted driving dangerously weeks after finding his wife in bed with someone else.

Rikki Lee Houghton, 29, of Grasmere, had been on his way to work when he was caught on dashcam footage travelling in Rayrigg Road in Windermere at around 5.45pm.

Peter Kelly, prosecuting, said: "He was seen overtaking cars on the wrong side of the road and he continued in the other lane through a left-hand bend and as he approached a blind hill.

"There was a potential risk of an accident if someone had been coming in the other direction.

"At the time he was going through a separation from his wife and he was suffering from depression and anxiety."

Representing himself, Houghton appeared before South Cumbria Magistrates' Court in Barrow on December 6.

He told the court: "Two weeks before this I found my missus in bed with someone else.

"I lost my house and kids because of it. Thankfully, my job had sorted some accommodation for me and I was on my way to work after seeing my kids that day.

"I was on my way to work that day and I didn't want to be late so soon after starting.

"I could see everything that was coming towards me but it was dangerous and I shouldn't have done it.

"I was on anti-depressants and they just took every thought out of my head."

Houghton was handed a 12-month community order involving 80 hours of unpaid work. He was also disqualified from driving for 15 months and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £85 and court costs of £85.
