A MAN was airlifted to hospital after taking ill while driving in the Lake District.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service was called to Thirlmere at around 8.30am today when a man in his 50s fell ill at the wheel.
The patient was assessed and treated by the GNAAS doctor-led aircrew at the scene before being flown to Carlisle's Cumberland Infirmary within 10 minutes.
He arrived in a stable condition.
