A HOTEL with breathtaking views of one of Cumbria's best-loved lakes has unveiled a £250,000 revamp of its bedrooms.

The four-star Macdonald Old England Hotel and Spa at Bowness has transformed four suites and six executive bedrooms as part of an ambitious programme of work.

It was completed last month.

Each of the renovated suites enjoys stunning views of Windermere, England’s largest lake, with large windows located in both the bedroom and living areas.

In addition to the four suites, a further six executive bedrooms have benefited from a refurbishment.

The firm said: "The interiors have been selected to exude a regal finish, with golds and purples throughout.

"The furniture, including all cabinets and tables, were sourced from prominent UK suppliers by Macdonald Hotels’ in-house design team."

The 106-bedroom hotel's facilities include a spa, fitness suite and a private jetty.

Chris Quinn-Waugh, the hotel's general manager, said: “While the hotel is already located in one of the most sought-after areas in the Lake District, the new suites have helped to elevate our positioning as a leading luxury getaway.

“In addition to stylish interiors, the rooms offer some of the most sensational sights in the area, allowing guests to gaze along panoramic views of the surrounding mountain peaks from the comfort of their own room.”

Macdonald Hotels and Resorts was established in 1990 and is the UK's largest privately-owned hotel group, operating 55 hotels across Britain, Portugal and Spain.
