In April 2017, a film crew were seen in Ambleside and Windermere, with an Ambleside toy shop said to have been adapted to be Mr McGregors'.

Peter Rabbit was originally scheduled to be released on March 23, 2018, but was moved up to February 9, 2018. The first trailer was released yesterday (September 21).

The new film seems to take an interesting slant on the story of the family favourite character, giving him new life as a party animal who hosts wild house parties, a new twist on the now well-known feud with Mr McGregor.

The film is directed by Will Gluck who also wrote the screenplay with Rob Lieber. Gluck’s previous directing work includes “Easy A,” “Friends With Benefits,” and the 2014 remake of “Annie.”

It is based around the character from Beatrix Potter’s children’s book series, who first appeared in “The Tale of Peter Rabbit” in 1902. The series has since sold more than 150 million copies worldwide in 35 languages.

With Beatrix Potter having found her writing inspiration here in the south Lake District, the county takes huge pride in her heritage. The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction is situated in Bowness and the National Trust keeps the author's Hill Top House home open to the public.
