BUDDING photographers are being encouraged to enter a competition by submitting their best winter pictures of the Lake District.

The contest has been launched by the Lake District Hotels Association as part of a campaign to drive tourism in the area.

Tim Rumney, vice chairman of the association, said: "We know first-hand how stunning our surroundings are here and we wanted to do something that would showcase that to the nation.

"The competition is another string to our winter campaign, declaring the Lake District well and truly open for business, as well as highlighting it as an aspirational place to visit throughout winter and beyond.”

Photographers of all ages can take part with the competition split into an over-18 and an under-18 category.

The top five entries from each category will be added to a shortlist on the Lake District Hotels Assocation's website with the local community then tasked with picking their favourite shot.

The winner of the under-18 category will receive a Discovery Pass for Grizedale Forest, while the winner of the over-18 contest will receive a night’s stay in a deluxe room at Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel and Restaurant.

Those wishing to take part should send their best snap of the Lakes to hello@reallakedistrict.co.uk by February 5.
