Lake District hotel searching for unusual photo of Windermere
A LEADING Lake District hotel is searching for the most unusual photograph of Windermere.
The Cedar Manor Hotel, which is a few minutes' walk from England's largest lake, has launched the competition to find the best shot from the most distinctive angle.
Owners Jonathan and Caroline Kaye watch many guests set off with cameras but rarely see the results.
Mr Kaye said:"We have our own favourite views - from the top of Orrest Head, a small but perfectly formed hill not far from our hotel.
"Both online and in magazines we see so many shots of the Langdale Poles across the head of the lake, for example. We want to see something different, unusual, quirky."
The idea for a competition came when the couple noticed that the most recent lake-view photos on their own website were actually of Wastwater and Coniston.
Mr Kaye said that it would be interesting to see pictures of the lake taken on dull or misty days.
Entries should be submitted digitally to email@example.com with the entry form available from https://www.cedarmanor.co.uk/cedar-manor- photo-competition.
The closing date is July 27 and the prize is a two-night midweek stay for two people, out of season, subject to availability.
The Cedar Manor is a luxury boutique hotel and restaurant which has won a string of awards in recent years, including Best Small Hotel in Cumbria and, recently, the Best Hotel in the UK in the Boutique Hotel Awards.
Built in 1854, Cedar Manor was originally used as a country house retreat.
It is secluded and peaceful, despite being within short walking distance of the lakeshore and Windermere town centre, giving people plenty opportunities to find the most unique and quirky setting for their photograph.
Mr and Mrs Kaye moved to the area when they bought Cedar Manor in 2007. Mr Kaye was familiar with the area having spent many holidays in the Lakes, whereas Mrs Kaye was a city girl.
The pair set to recreate the former country house when they took over and are now seeking for the perfect shot of Windermere.
