COINS placed in the cap of a sculptured figure left in a popular tourist destination by Ulverston artist LoKi have helped to feed struggling families.

One of LoKi's artworks was left at Bowness Promenade and visitors began placing coins into the hat left by the article alongside the sculpture.

In a statement on the Windermere Lake Cruises Facebook page bosses said: "Do you remember the sculptures that appeared in Bowness by mysterious artist LoKi?

"The seated musician who appeared on Bowness Promenade made quite an impression with passers-by and his hat started filling up with coins.

"LoKi asked via Facebook that we donated the funds to the local homeless so with the pennies in the hat we managed to donate a hamper load of food to the local foodbank.

"Thanks to everyone who chipped in and helped with the collection."

LoKi, who has been likened to graffiti specialist Banksy before, first turned heads across the Furness peninsula in 2014 when he scattered a collection of work around Ulverston – beginning with a six-foot painting of a human skull daubed above a doorway in Brewery Street.

He returned this summer with a collection of life-sized modrock figures which have been placed on the main roundabout in Ulverston, reminiscent of the figures left at the same roundabout in September 2015.

A piece of art donated to St Mary's Hospice by LoKi raised more than £1,000 for the charity after a closed bids auction.
