AN award-winning Cumbrian tourist attraction is set to reopen following a quarter of a million pound renovation.

Treetop Trek has completely rebuilt and upgraded its tree top nets park at Brockhole, near Windermere.

Its managing director Mike Turner, expressed his happiness at seeing through the extensive project.

He said: "It's very satisfying. We have two other sites but this is the premier site and it is great to continue investing in the Lake District."

As part of the £250,000 project the play area has been enhanced and expanded to provide a larger and more entertaining space for youngsters to explore. For the past six months work has gone on during the quiet off season in preparation for the summer tourist influx.

Mr Turner said: "This has been planned for about six months - we had to do it in the winter. It we planned it last year to get ahead. There has been a lot of other redevelopments planned at the same time."

The other development at the park, which has seen more than 120,000 visitors pass through its gates since 2014, includes a new parking area, updated cafe and adventure playground.

Treetop Trek operates adventure grounds as far away as Manchester, North Yorkshire and Wales.

It recently withdrew its planning application for zip wires over Thirlmere after the Ministry of Defence said it did not support the proposal.

To celebrate the competition of the project the park is holding a special Easter event for this first guests of the season. Children will be given an activity sheet to help them find a host of Easter eggs hidden amongst the treetop nets. The Easter activities will run from March 30 to April 15.
