THOUSANDS of visitors packed out a country fair in the hear of the Lake District this weekend.

The family spectacle, which has ran for generations, saw returning favourites including a number of dog shows throughout Sunday.

Held at Little Arrow, Torver, this year's fair offered visitors a falconry display from Silverband Falconry near Penrith, with an array of different birds of prey on show.

Alison Bolt, one of the organisers, said the group welcomed 3,000 visitors, with some regular visitors even planning their holidays to coincide with the show.

The fair, this year sponsored by the Church House Inn at Torver, proved a variety spectacle as traditional Cumbrian life was showcased for residents and visitors to enjoy.

From sheep-clipping to stickmaking and swill basket making, the day offered a key insight into country life and proved particularly enjoyable among younger visitors.

Priding itself on shining a light on traditional skills and activities vital to the county, organisers also welcomed Herdwick sheep and Cumbrian Fell ponies, while popular local chef Gary McClure carried out a cooking demonstration.

Youngsters were also able to take part in a number of sports events throughout the afternoon, while four-legged visitors took part in closely contested dog shows.

Broughton and Lowick Young Farmers also contested the annual Tug-of-War battle.
