A CONTROVERSIAL MP and strong Brexit champion traveled to south Cumbria at the weekend.

Leading Brexiteer, Jacob Rees - Mogg MP, visited Kendal on Friday (December 8) to celebrate Christmas with members and guests of the Westmorland and Lonsdale Conservative Association

The annual Christmas Lunch, where Mr Rees - Mogg was appearing as Guest of Honour, sold out within a week when tickets were released in the summer.

Mr Rees-Mogg has earned a high profile sharing strong views on abortion, same sex marriage, zero-hour contracts and even Donald Trump.

On the same day as he visited Kendal, the Conservatives Government announced a key agreement had been made on withdrawal from the European Union.

The event included an auction and raffle to raise funds for future campaigning. Among the prizes, a 33-year-old bottle of House of Commons whisky, autographed by former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, was donated by former constituency agent Arthur Moss.

The event was the second time in a fortnight that South Lakeland had been visited by leading Conservatives, coming two weeks after a visit from the Leader of the Scottish Conservatives, Rt. Hon. Ruth Davidson.
