Melville Tyson, in Princes Street, Broughton, has been supplying pies to those involved The A Word - a six-part series starring former Doctor Who actor, Christopher Eccleston.

The crew has been filming at Lake District locations including Coniston and Thirlmere, and returned to Broughton this month after shooting some initial scenes in October.

The drama tells the story of the Hughes family, who struggle when their youngest son is diagnosed with autism. A late spring TV broadcast is anticipated.

Mr Tyson, owner of the butchers and grocers, said: "It's been good.

"It's a quiet time of year so it's been nice to have people around the village."

The butcher added that the recent filming had helped the community, and that the production team "kept everybody in the know" with regards to when filming would take place.

The cast has been staying at The Inn on the Square in Keswick town centre and travelling to shoot in Lakes locations.

When the BBC started choosing film locations, producers asked Scott Closson, a chef at the Merienda in Keswick, if he would create the food for the pub in the show.

Mr Closson said: "This is a first for them and they are very excited about the idea of using an actual chef.

"Usually they buy food for the set from Tesco and it gets thrown away at the end of the day’s filming. They are actually eating my food.

"Christopher Eccleston is really nice and he actually came and introduced himself – as if I didn’t know who he was.

"He’s been eating my food and has enjoyed it.”
