A MOTORIST who swerved across a rural road when over the drink-drive limit has been given a 15-month ban.

Sheryle Kimberley Walker, 22, of Skelghyll Lane, Ambleside, was in Furness Magistrates' court today to answer one count of drink-driving.

The court heard how on June 11 at around 3.30am police observed Walker driving on the A591 in a Renault Clio.

Prosecutor Mr Peter Kelly, said: "PC Anderson (of Cumbria police) driving on the A591 spotted a Renault Clio swerving all over the road. Upon speaking to her he formed the opinion she had been drinking."

A roadside breath test was carried out, producing a positive result that Walker was over the limit.

The reading showed that she had 55mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mg.

In her defence, the court was told how Walker had been working in Keswick the evening before, and had planned to stay at the house of a colleague, before driving back to Ambleside in the morning.

She had been drinking with colleagues, but after her sleeping arrangements fell through, she decided to drive home, not thinking she was over the limit.

Walker pleaded guilty to the offence.

District judge Gerald Chalk ordered Walker to pay a fine of £300 and disqualified her from driving for 15 months.

She was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £35 and court costs of £85.
