WESTMORLAND and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron has issued a plea to help those affected by the Grenfell Tower fire.

Mr Farron has asked owners in the South Lakeland area to provide respite accommodation for victims of the fire.

Mr Farron said:"It was heartbreaking to see the tragedy of the Grenfell Tower fire, which took the lives of so many people.

"The government must look at what changes must be made to building regulations to ensure a disaster like this cannot happen again.

"However, we must not forget the immediate human tragedy of the hundreds of people who have lost loved ones, whose homes have been destroyed, and whose lives have been turned upside-down."

Police have confirmed at least 79 people died in that fire and it is likely the number will rise.

Anyone who can offer a place to stay should contact Tim on tim@timfarron.co.uk and the office will pass the offers of help to the British Red Cross.
