‘I always come away feeling happier’

What post-natal wellbeing classes have meant to me, by Ulverston Mind group members who asked to remain anonymous.
“The group has helped me feel like I’m still normal and no different to others.”
“It’s good to know there is a group out there where you won’t be judged no matter what you say.”
“It’s a place to get away from pressures at home and fully relax.”
“I always come away feeling a bit happier – and it’s really important to know there are people who understand and will be there for support when you need it.”
“The group gives women that break for a couple of hours a week to concentrate on themselves and meet other women with common issues.”
“It offers me and other women support emotionally and mentally, plus the chance to socialise in a great atmosphere.”
“It provides the comfort and support of others who understand the effect that postnatal depression can have.”
lUlverston Mind’s new friendly and informal post-natal wellbeing support group opens in Barrow on Wednesday September 12. Sessions will be held at Newbarn’s Children’s Centre in Rising Side, Barrow, from 9am until 10.30am every week.
lIn Dalton, sessions are held at the town’s children’s centre in Nelson Street, every Thursday from 9.30am until 11am.
lThe Ulverston group meets at the children’s centre in Lund Terrace, every Thursday from 1pm until 2.30pm.
lSessions are not just for women diagnosed with postnatal depression – any mum who feels they could use some support is welcome.
lAll groups are run by women, for women, with mums who have “been there” on hand to offer support.
lFor women who do not feel ready to call into a group, Ulverston Mind offers a one to one service.
Post-natal service manager Karen Gambie can be contacted to arrange a home visit on 07842 288 189.
