Howls as Barrow man Eion gets it all off his chest

THE bed in the beauty salon I’m standing in is shaking – but I can’t tell whether it’s from laugher or sheer fear, writes EMMA PRESTON.

Eion McPoland looks up hopefully as I walk in.

“I want to go home,” he tells me, “is it too late to back out?”

Unfortunately for Mr McPoland, it is, as the 27-year-old, of Fenton Street, Barrow, has already gathered around £200 sponsorship for his chest wax.

“I’m not looking forward to this,” he admits, watching beauty therapist, Adina Porter, pull on her gloves.

He then howls with pain when she pulls off the first strip but, admirably, spends most of the rest of his time laughing as she goes about her work.

Gradually, Adina starts to uncover a red devil on Mr McPoland’s chest.

The dad of two, who is covered in inkings, says: “I’d rather get a tattoo any day.

“On a scale of one to 10 of how much it hurts, I’d give it an 11. I won’t be doing this again.”

Mr McPoland is raising funds for Harrison’s Fun Fund which pays for mobility, sensory and fun items for special needs children.

The group is trying to raise £5,000 to buy an electric wheelchair for his two-year-old son, Corey, who has cerebral palsy.

Other upcoming fundraisers include a race night at Roose Pioneers Rugby Club on April 6 and a jumble sale at Ramsden Infant School from 11am until 1pm on March 9.
