Hitting the high notes in Millom sing-off

A MILLOM rivalry is set to play out at a music festival.
The reigning South Cumbria Musical Festival champions, Millom Partnership of Schools Choir, will do battle for their crown against a Millom School choir, among others.
This year’s festival takes place between March 17 and 23 at the Coronation Hall, in Ulverston.
And the partnership choir have ramped up rehearsals in preparation.
Music teacher Ruth Cullen said plans for this year’s event were going well.
She added: “We rehearse throughout the year, usually once a month, but we step it up at this time of year to fortnightly or even weekly leading up to the competition.
“We’ve chosen Gary Barlow’s Diamond Jubilee song ‘Sing’ and another surprise song.
“When it was on TV last year I heard it and thought it would be a great song for the choir.
“They’re a good choir and they work really hard.
“They enjoy the competition, the feeling of nerves when they stand up on stage with a big audience watching.
“And it’s quite nice because they’ve got to know children that they wouldn’t normally have.”
The choir, made up of more than 30 youngsters from the six partnership schools, from Year 1 to Year 11, recorded a song about Millom at The Bay radio studios in Lancaster, to raise money for youth projects in the town.
Mrs Cullen added: “We’re competing against the Millom School Choir this year.
“There’s nothing like a bit of competition!”
