Harry Potter actor to showcase Lake District in ITV series

FAMOUS actor Warwick Davis is set to show why the Lake District is his “favourite place in the world” next week, as part of a new ITV series about holidaying in Great Britain.

As part of the show, Warwick Davis tries to convince his wife and children about why holidaying in Britain can be a great idea.

Famed for starring in Star Wars and the Harry Potter series, the actor and his family spent a weekend camping in Keswick for an episode of Weekend Escapes with Warwick Davis, due to be screened on ITV on Friday May 2.

As a keen ‘staycationer’, Warwick attempts to show his wife and two children what the British holiday can provide that can’t be found in other parts of the world.

During his trip to the Lake District National Park, he tried his hand at ghyll scrambling down mountain streams and rocky crevices – a brave move for someone who can’t swim.

Before he got kitted out in a wetsuit, the star admitted he was having second thoughts, but afterwards was pleased he had taken the plunge.

He said: “I’m glad I did it. I’m not going to be in a rush to do it again – it’s just one of these things you can tick off the list to say you’ve done I suppose.”

During his stay, Warwick and family visited The Pencil Museum in Keswick, which hosts exhibitions, including the world’s longest coloured pencil and a ‘secret pencil’ used by RAF pilots to guide them home safely during World War Two.

Alex Farthing, manager of The Pencil Museum, said: “We’ve had quite a few famous people visit the museum in the past, but perhaps none quite as famous as Warwick.

“It was terrific to welcome him and his family to Keswick, and get them involved with some fun activities for the programme.”

The Davis clan also enjoyed ferret racing and a ‘best stick’ competition at the Lakeland Country Fair near Torver.

Warwick took part in a Cumberland sausage making competition and was asked to referee a traditional Cumberland wrestling match.

The last stop of the tour was Penrith, where the family visited Long Meg and Her Daughters, a stone circle which is 100 metres across.

Weekend Escapes with Warwick Davis will be broadcast on ITV at 8pm on Friday May 2.
