Grieving families are to get specialist help at Barrow hospital
Last updated at 10:29, Monday, 26 August 2013
A NEW bereavement specialist is set to help hospital staff in Barrow support patients, their families and carers.
Carole Palmer has joined the bereavement service as a liaison specialist nurse at Furness General Hospital.
The initiative is designed to help staff support people through the worry and sadness that comes with facing death.
Following bereavement, families and carers will continue to receive support from the specialist nurses, who will guide them through the next steps and answer any questions or concerns. The team will also support staff approaching families for tissue donation and provide professional guidance, education, support and leadership.
The specialist nurses are set to liaise with teams and agencies in a bid to ensure bereavement services at FGH are of the highest possible quality.

Have your say
All hospitals should have this in place and be part of every nurses training. After all they are going to come across it in their jobs it,s inevitable.
Wish they had this service when my twin girls passed away in 2009
