A BURST pipe has led to residents being unable to use tap water this evening.

Residents in Grange-over-Sands and Allithwaite reported getting dirty, brown water from their taps on Tuesday.

A spokesperson from United Utilities has said the problem will be resolved shortly.

They said: “We've had a burst on a pipe which feeds Highfield Service Reservoir.

“Engineers are on with the repair and in the meantime we are using water from other parts of our network to restore supplies to normal as quickly as possible.

“On occasions when moving water around our network it can disturb naturally occuring sediments and minerals at the bottom of our pipes which results in temporarily discoloured water.

“This is what's happened here and we're sorry for the inconvenience.

“Customers will shortly notice the water running clear again and we thank you for bearing with us.”
