TWO people were forced to call the coastguard after finding themselves cut off by the tide in south Cumbria.

Teams from the Bay Search and Rescue, Cumbria Fire and Rescue, Arnside and South Lakes Coastguard Rescue and Morecambe Lifeboat were called out by Holyhead Coastguard at 12.30pm on Tuesday, after the pair were left stranded near Grange. Three 4x4 teams attended from the Bay Search and Rescue alone, to find that those trapped had safely made their way ashore and been met by the fire crews and police.

The Bay Search and Rescue Team said it was "A good end result, although it could have ended differently", and has urged all walkers, fishermen and tourists to take care on the sands. People should always be aware of local tide times and incoming tides filling up around them.
