KEY members of the Vote Leave campaign in Cumbria have welcomed the result of the EU Referendum.

Since campaigning began, supporters, including MPs Theresa Villiers and Penny Mordaunt, have visited the Holker Estate's Cartmel Racecourse.

Lord Cavendish, Chairman of Holker Ltd, said: "I believe with passion that the country will be better, fairer, more secure and happier outside of the EU.

"Those who agree with me must accept that the result of the referendum was very close and now all of us have a responsibility to work together for a better future."

Oli Coulson, 18, campaign director at Cumbria Vote Leave, said: "I am absolutely exhausted but completely elated. Cumbria and Britain have given a clear message that we will be better off outside the EU and I think the future looks very exciting.

"Now that David Cameron has stepped down there will obviously be a leadership election and then we will begin negotions over article 50 of the Treaty on European Union.

"I think we have a lot to look forward to and the EU will give us a lot of what we want and vice versa."
