Michael Dale, 83, of Dearden Close, Grange, pleaded guilty to the charge at Furness Magistrates' Court on June 27.
He assaulted Michael Platt on June 9 after asking him to turn his music down. When his request was refused, Dale grabbed and punched his neighbour, and snapped his chain.
Dale was given an eight-week community order, involving a curfew between 5pm and 5am, ordered to pay £85 court costs and an £85 victim surcharge. He must also pay £40 compensation for the broken chain.
