STEAM engines and vintage vehicles of all different kinds have rolled into South Cumbria ahead of a popular two-day festival which takes place this weekend.

Cumbria Steam Gathering will attract thousands of visitors to Cark Airfield tomorrow and Sunday.

There will be some 1,300 exhibits across the busy show field, including majestic steam engines, vintage cars, tractors, motorbikes and pedal cycles.

There will be a large autojumble with parts for steam engines, agricultural vehicles, cars and bikes, and there will be many trade stands.

Taking to the main ring with two shows each day will be the world-famous motorcycle display team, Purple Helmets.

Visitors will be able to have a go at riding on a Segway and watch the entertaining sheep show.

This year the show will be the setting for the auction of a shepherds hut/ living van for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Tractor enthusiasts Alan Elliott and Bobby Suddes have constructed a living van and taken it from the north east coast to the north west coast, finishing at the steam gathering.

Tomorrow artist Evsie will be doing on-the-spot caricatures around the showground and on Sunday visitors will be able to meet Laurel and Hardy lookalikes as they mingle with the crowds.

The show also features a funfair, food hall and crafts.

Treasurer David Foster said: "Over the years we have extended the show so there is something of interest for everyone and to make it as much fun for everyone."

The gates open at 9am each day.

Tickets cost £12 for adults and £10 for concessions. Car parking is free.
