A MAJESTIC pair of steam ploughing engines were a popular and eye-catching display at Holker Garden Festival.

The 1920 Fowler engines from Old Hall Farm, Bouth, took centre stage on the showfield at the weekend, letting off plumes of steam.

The display also included a magnificent 1904 Fowler traction engine.

Alex Sharphouse, the owner of Old Hall Farm, said: "It's been a very good weekend, we have had a lot of interest. This nice weather makes a difference.

"We have brought along a pair of 1920 Fowler ploughing engines, with the plough, it is very rare to have two the same. We used them on the farm to plough in the spring. Once we have harvest we will probably replough in September, weather permitting.

"We also have a 1904 Fowler road engine which we use for driving courses.

"People absolutely love seeing these engines in steam and come alive.

"Lots of people want to come and see the farm after seeing us at Holker.

"We are having a good year with lots of visitors, the ice-cream is very popular and we have new pedal go-karts this year."

Mr Sharphouse said there are new lambs, piglets at the farm, as well as the old favourites such as Shire horses, ponies and cattle.
