IN the first production of its kind - with one of the most stunning settings imaginable - Shakespeare at Cartmel Priory will bring one of the most beautiful buildings in the south Lake District to life.

In a move which is making theatrical and ecumenical history, the priory will this week become the first Church of England building to host a community theatre project open to all, regardless of faith. A Midsummer Night's Dream opens tomorrow and runs until Saturday.

Led by professional director, Sandra Williams, the play has been years in development.

She said: “It has been an absolutely incredible journey and I am so proud of what this company has achieved. To bring such high-quality theatre to such a dynamic setting shall be a privilege in which we can add to Cartmel’s already well-renowned accolades.

“This shall hopefully be the first of many, not just for The Lakes, but across the rest of the UK."

Productions start at 7.30pm each day.
