A FATHER has paid tribute to his "little angel" on Facebook after his four-year-old-son died.

Police and the ambulance services were called after it was reported a boy had suffered severe injuries in the swimming pool at the Old Park Wood caravan park, near Grange, on Monday.

After being taken to FGH and then Alder Hey hospital in Liverpool, police confirmed that the boy had died.

Cumbria police have confirmed that Luca died as result of drowning.

Police said there are no suspicious circumstances and the file has now been passed to the coroner.

Heartbroken dad Gavin Hurle has posted pictures online of his son Luca, alongside the message: "Rip my little Angel daddy loves you so much xxxx."

A Just Giving page has been set up for Luca's family following his death, and has already raised £500.

Sophie Wheeler, who set up the appeal, wrote: "Little four year old Luca drowned while on holiday with his family.

"You can show your support to Luca's family by donating to help celebrate his life. Taken too soon. Sleep tight angel x."

Police are yet to officially confirm the cause of death, however, it is understood that a post-mortem has taken place.

The site where Luca died is part of Holker Estates Holiday Parks.

Duncan Peake, chief executive of the Holker Group, said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the young boy.

"We know very little at this moment. The police are setting up an investigation, and will issue a statement soon."

"The holiday park remains open. The pool is due to reopen shortly."

The family of the boy are being supported by the police.

Detectives are not treating his death as suspicious.

Anyone who can help the police with their inquiries has been asked to call Cumbria Police on 101.
