IT is the time of year when attention turns firmly to the garden - and the long list of to-dos seemingly never ends.

With the morning frosts hopefully on their way out and spring bulbs already in full bloom, an Easter Sunday event bids to capture the imagination of horticulturalists - and food lovers.

Holker Hall is opening its gates to some the region's top specialist nurseries, growers, plantsmen and women, who will be offering a huge choice of unusual plants from herbaceous to shrubs, autumn blooms to spring flowering bulbs.

As well as the plant fair there will be a food market with traders displaying the best in fresh, local and regional food and drink. Artisan producers will be on hand to chat to customers and share fabulous recipe ideas.

The event starts at 10.30am.

Continuing the gardening theme later this month there will be an opportunity to enjoy a guided tour of the spring highlights in the gardens followed by afternoon tea in The Ilex with Holker's head gardener.
