COASTGUARD crews were scrambled yesterday (29) afternoon following reports of a group of people stuck in mud.
Around 1.40pm it was reported that a group of four were trapped in waist-high mud near the Kents Bank viaduct.
The Furness Coastguard, Arnside and South Lakes Coastguard and the Morecambe RNLI were dispatched to the scene.
A mud rescue team was also sent on a jet ski to reach the stranded group before the tide overran them.
Two of the group had managed to escape the oncoming tide, and the Coastguard were able to extract the other two before the tide arrived.
A spokesman from the Coastguard urged people to take care on the sands, and to look up the times of the tides.
In an emergency on the coastline, ring 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
