THE owner of a banana tree has marvelled after 10 years of growth.
After being bought at a Homebase a decade ago, a Japanese Musa Basjoo fruit tree, owned by Grange man Jonathan Denby, flowered and produced fruit this year.
This came after the astonishing 51 uninterrupted days of sun over the past few months.
Mr Denby said: "Bananas are not supposed to flower in England, let alone produce fruit. This one has a bunch of about 20 bananas. I’m looking forward to eating them later this year."
