Golfers left fuming after vandals strike at Walney course

VANDALS have wrecked three greens at a historic county championship golf course, leaving hundreds of pounds worth of damage in their trail.

Have your say

Are you sure it wasn't just caused by hailstones.

Wally. I was raised on Walney but have 'served' in the UK and overseas for nearly 20 yrs; but Walney is home. One of the best sights when coming home (especially from somewhere hot and dusty) is the fantastic view along Central Drive of the sun setting over the golf course. I couldn't agree more with the comments left by 'Mitch'. Wherever I move to, I always make sure my kids join a golf club. Even if I couldn't afford to join myself. It teaches respect, rules, politeness, inclusion, sportsmanship, dedication....and is fun. Now, not necessarily you; but the 'sort' of person who leaves comments like you have, need to 'do the maths' (I'll break it down to 'round numbers' to help you, an an analogy you may be familiar with)....kids membership £50 (a year), that's about one scratchcard a week; your membership...£10 a week, that's about 2 pints and 10 fags...not elitist by any means...just alien to those who like to think the world owes them... I bet you laughed when Chetwynd School nearly closed ?..come on Wally, you're a 'closet golfer' too afraid to 'come out'...

Where's Wally???? Poor Wally..If you think that Furness golf club is elitist you really havn't ventured far off the A590.The fees are a fantastic price, fabulous value for money.I think you are behaving in a slightly spiteful manner and perhaps you secretly wish you were part of the Club.Imagine yourself playing golf, fresh air, socialising, plenty of exercise, all very good for you.All for the price of a few packets of fags a month. As for the members..They are members of YOUR community.Good, decent, hardworking people trying to have some fun.Try it you might just like it.

Wally, I am not, nor have I ever been or intend on being at any future point a member of any Golf club.
But I can show empathy toward people. Something you plainly lack.

Wally, the gentleman with the mobility chair was found guilty in court of criminal damage during said incident, not quite the victim your trying to portray him to be. But hey why let facts get in the way. Also the golf club is the owner of the land, are you willing to let people traipse all over your garden letting dogs foul all over it, no then why expect the golf club. The golf club members are all local people, anybody can join. Its a facility for the whole community to enjoy. Nobody ranted about any elitism except you, when you manage to lose that chip off your shoulder I'll look forward to seeing you at the 19th!!!

I know wally lets take all the fences down closing off OUR PRIVATE LAND and allow the community to rome free with dog mess everywhere, wont that be fun until some young kiddy gets killed CLOWN.

Dear Steve & Not surprised, Your over the top remarks are just what the Community has come to expect from the Golfing fraternity, the abuse in your rant proves just how out of touch you are with People in general? No way did I condone criminal behaviour, but to claim golfers particularly on Walney as being part of the community is the real joke! Your membership refuses point blank to allow walking access at the edge of the course, I remember walking there in the 60s, your club has pushed the boundary fence even further on to the cliff edge, taking land from the Community not helping it!I even recall a gentleman having his mobility chair over turned with him in it, simply because he wanted to bring access back to the public? I chose the Name Wally, some how I think you & your Ilk deserve that crown, The elitism you rant about does nothing for Common person or the Community, I only hope you are proud of your choice words, & enjoy reading it out to your cronies at the 19th hole ?

'Little' D, golf course, paving stone or brick wall - does it matter? Petty vandalism is petty vandalism and it doesn't sit well with decent-minded people.
