Furness nurses told jobs at risk

A TEAM of nurses who work with the disabled had their Christmas lunch ruined after being told their jobs are at risk.
Eight community learning disability nurses who cover the Furness and South Cumbria area said they were told that five of their jobs are set to go just minutes before they were due to start a buffet at their Christmas team meeting.
The Evening Mail was contacted by an annoyed carer, who did not wish to be named, who said the news was broken by a Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust boss.
The carer said: “The team, which included admin staff and student nurses, had just finished a team meeting and were about to start their Christmas buffet when a manager from Carlisle arrived and broke the news to them.
“They knew there were going to be cuts but to be told like this in front of other staff was disgusting and the timing has ruined everyone’s Christmas.
“Despite attempts to contact management to discuss no one has bothered to get back in touch with them. The staff affected were traumatised and very upset.
“As a carer, me and my service are very concerned that the level and standard of care provided to the learning disability population in South Cumbria is going to be severely affected.
“I think that one of the things that annoyed them is that the managers have known about this for a while but chose to break the news only a few days before Christmas.”
However, a spokeswoman for Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust said the proposals had not yet been presented to staff but said local managers have been keeping teams informed of changes to the way the service is delivered.
She said: “We can confirm that the trust will be talking to and consulting staff in the new year about proposed changes to the way that the service is delivered.
“At present, however, no proposed changes have been presented to staff who have been regularly updated by local managers throughout the year.”

Mike the article clearly says that there were people present but that 8 learning disability NURSES were to be reduced to 3. I would have thought anyone with a masters would have been ore thorough in their research!

Bet if this was FGH nurse it would be font page news! As its Lerning Disabilities nursing no one knows and no one cares!!!! Second class citizens always short changed!!!! Disguisting!
