Mike the article clearly says that there were people present but that 8 learning disability NURSES were to be reduced to 3. I would have thought anyone with a masters would have been ore thorough in their research!

The carer said: “The team, which included admin staff and student nurses, WAS TOLD---- no mention of fully qualified nurses. As for being sacked for speaking out? absolute rubbish ! and don't talk to me about not knowing about services as i am a fully qualified masters degree community matron who is well aware of what is going on with posts being re-assesed to see if they involve any management at all then if so being classed as "managers" and when they are cut back it looks to the world as if it has been management that have been cut when in fact it is front line services this has been ongoing since before the election, my job is at risk too so "barrovian" don't preach at me as you definitely have not my insight professionally or academically.

They are people who train specifically in the field of learning disability and ARE qualified learning disability nurses. Some people need to learn more about local services and not jump to conclusions.

How disgusting that some of the most vulnerable people in our society loose out because of forced cuts to NHS services. This should be fought.

Sorry Mike but for once the EMail are correct. The people in question are Learning Disability Nurses. Probably not as well known by the Community unless you were a recipient of their care. Learning Disability Nurses are often not recognised but are an important facet to the Community. They work with Carers to access health care for disabled people, who are often under-represented in health care. The work with families to promote mental health too, offering assessments and advice in dealing with behaviours which may challenge and ultimately stop disabled people having to access expensive out of County placements. This is just another cost cutting exercise, undermining the needs of people with learning disabilities by the current government. Too many cuts are being made without forward thinking. The loss of these nursing posts will ultimately cost more as unpaid carers will not be able to cope without the aid of the nursing team and ultimately the learning disabled people will experience poor health thus placing more burdens on the NHS and as relationships break down with informal supports there will be increased need for paid supports and more complex and costly care. This has clearly not been thought through and people holding the purse strings obviously do not understand the importance of the role of learning disability nurses in the community.

Wake up, Mike. The Nurses wouldn't be so daft as to talk to anyone about their treatment. They'd be instantly sacked. The 'carer' is a carer of a service user and, as such, is able to bring to the public's attention just how the Carlisle-centric management of Cumbria Partnership looks after it's staff.

Either the local manager was lying, (possible), or the propaganda machine 'spokeswoman' is lying...and I know who I'd 'trust' the least.

Be aware that the accountants running the Trust will have outsourced the care of the vulnerable to the cheapest provider and, regardless of protestations against such a suggestion, said provider will not match the quality provided by those very well trained professionals. My heart goes out to them and to those who have previously benefitted from the care given by them.
