Furness Building Society's Valentine's cancer charity appeal
Last updated at 16:31, Thursday, 21 February 2013
VALENTINE’S is a day synonymous with giving – but it is about more than just lovers swapping tokens of affection.
Furness Building Society last week helped spread the love for their local cancer charity, as they spent February 14 hosting fun activities to get members of the community to show their support.
Staff at the Barrow, Dalton and Millom branches held Valentine’s-themed raffles and sold romantic gifts and specially-decorated cakes.
All money was made for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation, which funds equipment, facilities, treatment and research across South Cumbria and Lancashire.
Martin Cutbill, sales and marketing director at The Furness, said: “We have supported Rosemere Cancer Foundation for over 15 years as we believe in the great work they do, as do our staff and customers.”
The Rosemere Valentine’s Appeal runs throughout the first three weeks of February, and aims to raise £30,000 to support services and projects which make a difference to patients.
The Bay Radio, which supports the project, visited The Furness’ Barrow branch on Thursday as part of a tour to promote the appeal.
Sue Thompson, Rosemere chief officer, said: “Furness Building Society is one of our oldest and most loyal supporters – they have raised thousands via the Rosemere Cancer Foundation charity over the years. On behalf of Rosemere I would like to express our extreme gratitude.”
