Former Millom chef, 55, bankrupt

THE driving force behind a Millom seafood firm has been declared bankrupt.

Stephen Leece, of Monk Moors, Eskmeals, who ran Esk Valley Seafoods, based in Millom, filed for bankruptcy on November 14.

The company has since closed down with the loss of three jobs.

A notice published in the London Gazette said a bankruptcy notice was granted to him on November 15.

Mr Leece employed three members of staff and boasted he was the first crab processor in the North West. Known for his hard work, Mr Leece even had a bed at his firm’s base in Devonshire Road due to his long hours.

Esk Valley Seafoods was believed to be the only crab producers operating in the North West and Mr Leece’s staff hand dressed the crabs at their Millom base.

The business supplied a number of hotels and fresh food retailers.

Mr Leece, 55, a former chef and member of the Civil Nuclear Constabulary at Sellafield, filed for bankruptcy with Barrow County Court on November 14 and a bankruptcy order was made the day after. The Evening Mail was unable to contact Mr Leece before it went to press.

Have your say

I have never met anyone who worked as hard as Stephen. Respect for the man.

I feel sorry for this guy. Why did the NW Evening Mail feel the need to run this story ? Countless people have gone bankrupt - Why was this blokes unfortunate circumstances singled out as a story ?
