Former England ace and ex Ireland boss Jack Charlton joins Barrow anglers for event

FORMER Leeds and England footballer and ex Republic of Ireland manager Jack Charlton met disabled children and adults from Barrow during a special day out.
The 1966 World Cup winner, who is patron of the local Disabled Anglers Association, hosted a free event for local anglers in the Lake District.
The fishing competition, funded through Active Cumbria’s Access to Sport Programme, was held on August 19 at Bessy Beck Fishery.
Participants didn’t need any experience of angling as equipment and tuition was provided.
The event included several competition and prizes, with a total of 57 anglers taking part.
Anglers came from across the county including, Hawthwaite Lane in Barrow, Carlisle Mencap , Eden Mencap, Edington Centre in Penrith, Hensingham Day Service in Whitehaven and PAVE in Barrow.
In total 55 anglers took part with 28 of their personal helpers. Worm anglers caught 79 fish on the day, weighing a total of 100.55 lbs. The following anglers won trophies
The Jack Charlton Cumberland Trout Cup was won by Geoffrey Robinson, from Hensingham Day Service.(2 fish 5lb 1oz)
Northern Game Angler J.C.D.A.A. – Best catch on fly (Island Lake) was won by Robert Cameron. (12 fish, best fish 6lb 1oz)
Trout & Salmon Association Cup – Heaviest Fish on Fly was won by Alistair Corps Bell. (5lb)
Northern Bait Farms Cup – Angler of the Match was won by Mary Hughes, Hawthwaite.
Northern Bait Farms Cup –Heaviest Fish on Worm was won by Thomas George, Hensingham Day Service. (2lb 8oz)
A.N.C. Rosebowl – Heaviest Bag on Worm (Mallard Lake) was won by Colin Woodend, PAVE Jubilee House. (2 fish 3.7lb)
William Armstrong CUP – Heaviest bag on worm (Heron Lake) was won by Daniel Whitehead, Eden Mencap (3 fish 4.65lb)
John Redfern Memorial Trophy – Best Junior Angler was won by Dale Hodgson from Carlisle Mencap (3 fish 3.65lb)
Carlisle City Council Shield - Best Wheelchair Angler was won by Nelson Bailey a Fly Angler from Northern Ireland.
Lowther Caravan Park Shield – Winning Club was Eden Mencap. (Average 3.40lbs)
