Flood warning as high tides expected for Barrow

THERE could be a risk of flooding this morning if strong winds coincide with predicted high tides in Barrow.

Barrow will see an 9.8m tide hit at 1.21pm today and, although no official flood warnings have been issued, residents should be aware of the risk of localised flooding.

An environment agency spokesman said: “Storms are notoriously difficult to predict.

“If the storms coincide with the high tides, there would be a risk of flooding. “Our advice is keep in touch with us on Twitter or online and keep an eye on the weather updates.”

Volunteers at South Walney Nature Reserve have stocked up just in case.

Gareth Tate said: “If you get strong winds behind a high tide there’s a chance the road here will be out of action for a few days.”
