‘Fantastic’ work on new Cumbria A590 roundabout

THE end to months of motoring misery on the A590 in Cumbria is in sight as progress is made on a multi-million pound construction job.
This photo, taken by Archie Workman, the chairman of the Ulverston Business Alliance, clearly shows that the long-awaited roundabout on the A590 near Greenodd is beginning to take shape.
Construction of the £2.7m project began in late July, causing major disruption to drivers and local residents.
The Highways Agency was heavily criticised for its handling of traffic during the initial stages of construction which left some drivers waiting for over an hour to pass.
The project is part of a national £317m programme to remove bottlenecks, improve safety and keep traffic moving on England’s motorways and major A roads.
The scheme aims to tackle congestion and reduce accidents on the A590.
The work is set to be completed in February 2014.
Mr Workman said: “The guys, in my opinion, are doing a fantastic job.”
