Family home has plenty of space – inside and out

A GOOD career move is the only reason Brendan and Tracey Warriner are selling their much-loved home, which has been in Tracey’s family for 30 years. As the couple and their two children prepare for an important move, SUSAN GOODSON found out about the home they will leave behind
TRACEY has plenty of wonderful memories about her family’s home, especially as it was the place she grew up in as a child.
And when her mother wanted to move into a nearby bungalow, Tracey and Brendan jumped at the chance to take on 17 Carisbrooke Crescent, Barrow, themselves in 2000.
It was an easy decision because they were well aware of the hard work Tracey’s father had put into the semi-detached home, including adding an extension in the early eighties.
The house has plenty of space, both inside and out, with three living rooms and three bedrooms with great views.
There is also a large, boarded loft, which has been used as a children’s playroom in the past, but is now a storage area reached by a pull-down ladder.
Brendan said it would be a good room for anyone wanting an office or a place to work from home or it could equally be turned into a fourth bedroom.
Outside, the family has taken full advantage of the large, private garden at the back of the house, while to the front of the property there is plenty of room to park, as well as a garage.
Describing the house, Brendan said: “The house holds wonderful memories for Tracey, growing up in it from about the age of 10, but we were also keen to make it our home.
“It gives you confidence when you know the type and standard of work carried out on the house over the years.
“Tracey’s father did a lot of work on it and kept it well maintained.
“We knew he had always ensured any work on the house was done to a high standard.
“We have redecorated several times to keep it up-to-date and fresh.”
Asked if he had a favourite area in the house, Brendan said: “I enjoy relaxing in the middle room, especially in the winter, because it has a great fire with a really nice surround.
“It is very cosy and you can just relax and watch a movie or read a book.
“For Tracey, her favourite place is the garden out the back in the summer. She finishes work earlier than me and when I come home she is usually out there enjoying a cold drink.”
There are well-established trees around the edge of the garden, which ensures plenty of privacy.
The third lounge is beautiful and light with full length mahogany-style double patio doors which lead out to the garden.
It makes a good family room come dining area and lets in plenty of natural light.
The house has an almost new top-of-the-range gas boiler and the double glazing is all up to date.
The house also has a very spacious, long galley kitchen.
The property’s location has also proved ideal for the couple and their two children, Bethany, 16, and Jamie, 13.
The neighbours are excellent, says Brendan, and it is a quiet street with a shop, bus stop and postbox at the end.
Brendan makes no secret of the fact that if it was not for a job opportunity within his company, he and Tracy would never have considered selling the house.
Although the whole family is excited by the move to a different area and Brendan is looking forward to taking on the challenges that come with a new job, there is no getting away from the fact that leaving their home town of Barrow is not an easy thing to do.
And for Tracey there is the regret of leaving the house that has been a wonderful family home for her as a child and an adult.
But, she says, a great new job offer from the company Brendan works for is not to be missed.
Tracey works for the NHS and so can commute to Lancaster from their new home in the Wigan area.
The house, 17 Carisbrooke Crescent, Barrow, is on the market for £194,500 with Corrie and Co Estate Agents.
For further details or to arrange a viewing, please ring the agent on 01229 825333 or call into their Barrow offices at 68-70 Duke Street.
