Elderly cyclist who died after smashing into a wall in south Cumbria named

AN elderly cyclist who died after being involved in a collision with a wall in south Cumbria has been named.

 

Police have confirmed that John Edgar Hamilton Collinson, 82, from Staveley, Kendal, sadly died following a collision on Crook Road.

At around 11:10am yesterday a one vehicle road traffic incident took place in the vicinity of Hollins Hall Farm between Staveley and Crook. Involved was a bronze coloured racing style bicycle which was in collision with a drystone wall.

Mr Collinson, the rider, received serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Air ambulance were in attendance and the road was closed for around two hours whilst the emergency services dealt with the scene.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident or anyone who may have seen a cyclist on this road to contact PC Lee Hill of the Southern Operational Support Unit on 101.
