Detergent factory celebrates milestone
Last updated at 13:50, Tuesday, 19 June 2012
WORKERS at a detergent factory in Barrow are celebrating a new safety record.
McBride’s facility in Park Road has achieved 365 days with no lost-time accidents. This is a new record for the company and staff at the Barrow plant are delighted to have achieved this health and safety milestone.
The company said health and safety is a key focus for all activities at the site with everyone playing their part taking a proactive approach through risk assessments and task analysis of daily activities and reactive monitoring in the recording and thorough investigation of near misses and incidents.
The site operates a health and safety management structure based on the Health and Safety Executive’s HS(G)65 guidance, which involves every department holding a monthly meeting and having a structure of policy makers, planners and implementers to address all daily activities in terms of health and safety.
Bosses said this proactive focus and the safety-conscious culture generated within the site has led to the Barrow site having a full year with no lost time accidents.
The site’s safety culture is continuously evolving with new initiatives from the team and an extensive safety communication policy – safety remains the key focus and as such the site is already aiming for the next target.
McBride employs around 190 people at its Barrow factory, which manufactures private label soap powder and tablets for some of the UK’s biggest supermarket chains.
