Model rhinos ready to hit Dalton streets

ANOTHER rhino is ready to be let loose in Dalton after undergoing a makeover at the hands of Year Nine art students at Furness Academy North.
The model will be one of 15 decorating the town in the coming weeks as part of a creative tourism campaign.
When the rhinos are eventually released from captivity , they will form a trail for visitors to follow leading up to the South Lakes Wild Animal Park.
The idea was brought to life by Dalton vicar Reverend Allan Mitchell, who was inspired by similar initiatives in other towns.
The park donated the rhino to Furness Academy North and representative Gemma Wood visited the school to check on the students’ progress.
“It looks absolutely superb,” she said. “The children at the Furness Academy designed it themselves and picked the different animal prints.
“We just told them to go for it and they’ve done a fantastic job.”
The rhinos are set to hit the streets in June.

Ooh those horns look a bit sharp someone somewhere might hurt themselves falling on one. Better cover the horns with some protective foam or bubblewrap.
Ooh they are a trip hazard aren't they being small and stocky. Someone somewhere might fall over them and hurt themselves. Better fit them with a hi viz vest and warning lights for the quiet hours.An entirely fictitious H&S assessment... at least I hope its fictitious!

This is a really great idea! Dalton arrives on the world stage :-)
Liverpool has "Superlambanana", Munich has Lions all over the city, and even Milton Keynes has it's Concrete Cows, but none of them will be as good as the Rhinestone Rhino!I look forward to walking around Dalton with my family on a sunny day and trying to find all the Rhinos!Posted by Matthew Sanderson on 15 May 2012 at 07:19
